This performance template is all about "punch in effects." Use the punch in effects to create new rhythms from your existing patterns. The effects are glitchy, lo-fi, and full of grit. I originally designed this template for drum and bass, but it works great for all genres and tempos. The idea is that you play the effects yourself, like another instrument. There are combos and synergy, and with practice, you can master the move sets. No matter what kind of music you are making, this will transform your project. This project includes Hyper FX 1.0.6 1FF. This is a duplicate project with the looper removed in favor of a free flex track for sampling.

Hyper FX x.x Template for the Octatrack // Manual by EZBOT

All Banks and Patterns are populated with the Hyper FX Template at default scale of INFINITE and a PATTERN CHANGE of 64 steps (4 bars).

***Clicks and pops can be caused by unstable BPM from external clocking sources. To avoid this use a stable clocking source such as the Octatrack itself.

***Audio CC outs is disabled by default.

***Be sure RECORD QUICK MODE is enabled in your system settings. --> PROJECT --> SYSTEM --> PERSONALIZE --> RECORD QUICK MODE (ENABLE)

***Transport Send/Receive, Clock Send/Receive, and Program Change Send are all active by default and set to MIDI channel 10. Do not send the Octatrack a clock source when you want the Octatrack to be the master clock, or disable incoming clock: FUNC + MIDI to enter MIDI clock settings, here you can disable or change MIDI clock settings.

AUDIO ROUTING: Both A/B and C/D share the same effects.

CUE is set to POST FX but PRE Stutter and Stretch Effects. Headphones are set to CUE only by default for transitions.

TO RECORD:

Method 1: Press YES when not in step sequencer mode. A 4-bar loop will be recorded onto track 4. Recordings are quantized to 4-bar intervals. i.e. Press YES on bar 3 of 4 and a recording will begin on Bar 1. Press YES on bar 4/8 and a recording will begin on bar 5.

Method 2: Press REC-3 while track 5 is highlighted and a recording will begin on the next 16th note interval. The recording will end either after you press REC-3 again or after 64 steps has passed (4 bars).

***Recording without record quick mode enabled will require you to hold track 5 and press REC-3.

TO SAVE A RECORDING TO FILE: Select Track 5, Press FUNC + REC 3 and choose "Save This Recording". This is useful for creating stems to save and use in other projects or to transfer to your computer.

BEAT REPEATS: FREEZE DELAY is available on Tracks 1. To use the FREEZE DELAY hold FUNC + DOWN ARROW and select DELAY CONTROL. GREEN button 9 controls the FREEZE DELAY for inputs A/B and C/D. This will freeze your whole mix.

FX BLOCKS: Hyper, Corpo, Zone, and Dream

64 Scenes across 4 Parts. To move to a different set of 16 scenes/fx press PART and use the arrow keys to select a new SET OF 16 EFFECTS.

Each FX block has unique but similar "PUNCH IN EFFECTS". Engage your effect, while the crossfader is at 100% wet "jump" to another effect. Stack them together to create new rhythms.

*** PART 4 / DREAM has 3 effects worth noting. Scene 2/3 are a tape stop and tape speed up. Scene 15 is a REVERSE and requires you to record a 4-bar loop first. PRESS YES or REC-3 to start a loop.
